Excellent! I made this recipe as written, except I doubled it and sauteed the cabbage for the Colcannon in my bacon pan instead of microwaving. The stew will thicken and reduce, so exist careful with the salt - I added half before putting in the oven and and so (very lightly) salted to taste when it was done. The Colcannon is perfect! Thanks for the recipe!

This was a fantastic recipe! I made the stew with a can of Guinness beer. After browning the meat in a skillet, I threw everything in the crockpot and cooked on low for 7 hours. The meat was very tender. The colcannon was delicious. I made the entire dish alee of time and microwaved it when we were ready to eat. The stew and colcannon combination is really skillful together. The adults loved information technology and my kids ate information technology without complaints!

I never rate a recipe as I rely on the women to tell if its good or non. Just this stew has to be spoken up about. Information technology is purely a mans stew. Strong and robust I made this on a hunting trip with my buds they just loved it. It realy is cracking

Holy moly, this recipe is amazing. I simply had 2lb of meat on manus, but treated the recipe as the original 8 servings for the remaining ingredients. This is so delicious. I used 4 cloves of garlic because I dearest it, and since I had ground thyme instead of dried leaves, used one/2 tsp. When browning the meat, I salted and peppered the meat to impart flavor throughout the cooking process, but even so added the salt and pepper called for subsequently in the recipe. For the colcannon, I used about 3 times the milk called for. These changes are all pocket-sized, and I would trust this recipe over and over! It's wonderful! Can't wait to consume it again, and I'm still finishing my plate. :) **Update: Don't use Guinness! I used Guinness the second time I made this and the bitterness was overwhelming for my 2lbs of meat and really ruined the dish for me. Using a less bitter beer is the fashion to get.

This is perfect! I wanted some good old fashioned condolement food due to the common cold atmospheric condition today and got to thinking about my Grams irish gaelic stew ofcourse i dont have her recipe and so i came here.Glad i did!She served hers over colcannon too and this was what i wanted and this recipe is perfect equally is!I felt like i was dorsum in Grams kitchen eating dinner!Honey it! and my kids both loved it likewise! No leftovers! The but thing i did differantly was i cooked it in the crock pot & throw in peas becuase she always had peas in hers :)

This was first-class! I didn't have whatever night beer so I just used regular beer only added a flake of molasses. I also only had a pound of stewing beefiness so decided to try something completely unlike - I added nearly a pound of boneless, skinless craven thighs, cutting into cubes. Used ruddy cabbage instead of green because that'south what I had in the fridge. Gave the potatoes a unique colour. Overall, the flavour of the whole repast was superb - especially the potato, cabbage, bacon combination. And like others, I did not cook the cabbage in the microwave - I sauteed it a bit in the bacon pan. Definitely a keeper! (My mouth is watering simply thinking of this dinner - we had it last night and I could swallow information technology again this night just, alas, no leftovers!)

Word to the wise. Do not use Guinness Stout. My guinness loving husband and I constitute information technology so bitter as to exist inedible. I accept strained off the broth and I am trying to rescue it with beef goop and seasonings. This seems unfair to rate since information technology appears the beer is at mistake. i take had several friends who made it and they loved information technology, but they did not use a bitter stout. Cheers for sharing.

I fabricated this last nighttime for supper and my v twelvemonth old(who never likes anything I cook)not only finished everything on her plate, but asked if I would make it again tonight!!!I made the recipe exactly as written. Everyone loved this dish. Thanks for fantastic recipe.
03/21/2010
Splendid! As someone who is not a fan of corned beefiness, I was looking for another main dish I could serve. This was it! I did chocolate-brown the meat and coat it in flour equally the recipe directs, but then I put all ingredients in the wearisome cooker for 7 or 8 hrs on depression. Perfect! Also didn't desire to hear it from my critics well-nigh "ruining" their mashed potatoes with cabbage so I pureed the cooked cabbage and then composite it into the potatoes. It did have a very light light-green tint but I made no replys to the comments and no one was the wiser!:) I also held out the salary pieces and let those who like bacon add it at the table. If anybody likes salary I would definately not go out this out as information technology gave the colcannon a finishing touch. This is definately a keeper! Thank you for the corking recipe.
07/01/2010
This is a terrific flavored stew. I omitted the flour and used guiness beer. Fifty-fifty though I only used 1lb of beef I kept the same ratio of braising liquid and braised on the stove top covered for 3 hours 15 minutes to a tender meat. I don't carp with thick sauces or reducing - the flavour of the braising liquid and the veg and meat was like an au jus over the colcannon. Will make again!
03/17/2011
I followed the recipe exactly and I recall it would have turned out really good except that I used an extra stout beer which made the stew really bitter. Fortunately, I plant a nother recipe that called for extra stout beer + 3/4C chopped prunes to first the bitterness. I had some prunes on hand so I added them and cooked it for another 45 minutes. Those prunes saved the dish and disintegrate into the broth almost completely. Next time I make it I'll use one-half beefiness broth and half beer + the prunes. Mmmm. A couple of reviewers have mentioned using Guinness beer without the stew being bitter. Don't make the mistake of thinking all Guinness is equal. There is a huge difference between canned/bottled Guinness Draught beer and Guinness Extra Stout beer (available in bottles simply - without the niggling widget that makes the Draught beer foamy). Guinness Extra Stout has double the alcohol and significantly more hops than its Draught cousin. If yous brand this recipe with Guinness Extra Stout you lot WILL have a bitter stew on your hands. I am giving this recipe four stars considering of the calcannon. ane/4 cup of milk was not well-nigh enough and I ended up using three times that corporeality to get the consistency I wanted. I also "made information technology naughty" by using i/2 C butter + 2 teaspoons of the rendered bacon fat (I omitted the table salt). Non exactly salubrious but oh so good!
03/22/2011
Sooooo good! Used the tiresome cooker, so I did take to add together 2 cups of beef goop to keep the veggies nether liquid the entire cooking time (7 hours on low). So I thickened it at the end with some flour because nosotros like a thicker stew. It was amazing! The colcannon was delicious every bit written! Used the leftovers for shepherd's pie subsequently calculation some peas. Two meals in one! Who could ask for more? Endeavour this recipe!!
eleven/22/2010
Wow I can't believe how practiced this is. Information technology's a bit of work, simply worth it!!!
04/14/2010
This recipe is Amazing! I didn't take a dutch oven. I made the stew in a pot on top of the stove then put it into a casserole dish to broil in the oven. I never had a good "stew recipe" before. I followed it exactly and got zip but huge raves. The gravy is dark and so very flavorful. Yous must serve with biscuits for dunking. Thank you so much for sharing this one.
04/10/2010
Amazing! Anybody loved it. Didn't change a single thing. Made with Rogue's Dead Guy Ale simply next time I think I'll employ Guiness Extra Stout
04/11/2011
I made this Gluten Free (by substituting Cherry Bridge gluten free beer and my gluten gratuitous flour mix, [my recipe on here or employ rice flour].) This was incredibly flavorful despite my not having bay leaves or thyme!! (I sprinkled in some marjoram instead.) I volition also attempt it in a crock pot. I'yard sure my Irish peachy-grandmother must have made this!
02/xv/2011
I was so happy with how this stew turned out. The but changes I made were to employ pre-cubed beef stew meat, Guinness instead of beer, and pre-crumbled bacon for the colcannon (I ran out of time and just so happened to have some in my fridge). The colcannon was simply buttery plenty and the cabbage was perfectly cooked. I ever hand-mash my potatoes, and so that's the just change I made to the methods. The stew had the perfect amount of liquid and the beef was and then tender. The carrots didn't turn to mush, which I was concerned almost. The overall flavor was first-class. My husband fifty-fifty loved it! I will definitely make this recipe in the future. In fact, I'm thinking about serving it to friends next time nosotros have them over for dinner.
08/30/2011
This is the only beef stew recipe I can imagine ever using once more. I fabricated it as written, it was succulent. I doubled the beer to brand it soupier and added well-nigh one i/2 tb of brown sugar to cut the bitterness, and information technology was succulent. I fabricated it today but just added the potatoes diced, used 32 oz of beef stock (had a recovering alcoholic eating with us) and a fresh lycopersicon esculentum, and information technology was delicious. Can't really become wrong with this one.
04/05/2011
This was awesome! My mom that doesn't similar annihilation loved this as did my iii yr old :) Def a keeper!
01/22/2011
This was outstanding - Thanks and so much for the recipe! Even my picky husband raved over it. Autonomously from using twice as much milk in the potatoes, I made this exactly as written. I didn't uncover after 45 minutes though because it didn't demand to be reduced any farther. Next fourth dimension I'thou going to increment the beer a bit, only that'due south all. This recipe is a winner!
03/28/2010
Really actually skillful. I fabricated it with Irish Champ instead of Colcannon because I didn't have cabbage, but the recipe was wonderful. I will be making this over again and once again.
01/22/2011
Amazing! It is then practiced! I honey making it for people because whenI start mixing in cabbage to the mashed pots they look at me like I'm nuts... And so they taste it!
01/16/2011
Splendid flavour.
01/10/2011
This is a fantastic, flavorful stew. And so tender.
12/12/2010
Delicious!! The stew is really proficient served over the colcannon. I used lager since that is what I had and it was still succulent. Thanks for sharing.
01/08/2011
Showtime time making an Irish stew and colcannon. This is a great recipe for a showtime time attempt at either.
01/30/2011
Very succulent, hearty, and rich. I didn't have any really dark beers around so I fittingly used and Irish Red Ale(one I actually homebrewed!) in this recipe and all of my friends loved it, it got demolished(in a good fashion). I would definitely brand again.
03/17/2011
Delicious! I think next time I will add more carrots and onions to it and possibly even throw in some turnip. I might add some beef stock to it next time as well so there is a trivial more gravy. I used more garlic than it called for and a little less worcestershire sauce so it was more than to our tastes. I didn't microwave the cabbage because in that location is really no need. I merely put it in with the potatoes for the terminal 5 or ten minutes and strained information technology all together. It was fabulous! Definitely i of our faves!
03/08/2011
I have made this receipe over and again since finding it last St. Patrick's 24-hour interval. It is the best stew I have e'er tasted. I exercise not change a thing and it always turns out the best. Fifty-fifty my picky kids honey it!
03/twenty/2011
My but complaint about this was at that place wasn't plenty!!! OMG this was sooo good! The meat was incredibly tender, information technology melted in my mouth. There was v of us and the whole thing totally disappeared! I also used guiness - no problem with bitterness. I think this was ameliorate than corn beef and cabbage. I added a couple of tablespoons of sour foam to the colcannon to enhance the creaminess. Deliciousness!
02/09/2011
Nosotros tried this recipe for the start time on Sun evening. I've never tried Colcannon before and it is succulent! I constitute information technology amazing that mixing uncomplicated ingredients such as mashed potatoes, cabbage, and bacon could make such a wonderful combination! My oldest daughter is not a fan of mashed potatoes or cabbage, simply she ate a plate full of the Colcannon! The stew for me was average (iii-4 stars), but I honestly believe it was due to an mistake that I fabricated. I did not buy the right kind of roast meat and I didn't add enough beer. My stew ran out of liquid, and then I added broth and information technology didn't come out very flavorful. The beefiness flavor of the meat I chose (information technology was on sale) was overpowering. I still give the recipe five stars though because I call up it would be v stars if I had done information technology correctly. The heavenly Colcannon deserves 5 stars on its own! Even with the errors, everyone said it was very good and they want me to brand it again on St. Patrick's Day! I definitely want to give it some other try, this fourth dimension using the right meat. I'grand excited to run across how it turns out this time around. Thank you for the great recipe!
01/04/2012
Excellent dish! I followed the recipe, didn't make any changes, and it was amazing!
11/30/2011
This stew is 1000! I have fabricated many stews and then far merely they ever seemed to be missing something. This stew nevertheless embodied the flavors I expect of a stew...full rich and savory! I doubled the carrots and onions and took a German Schwarzbier instead of a Guinness to give the stew a little more body....it was sublime! And then proficient that it would make a good low upkeep Christmas dinner!
03/13/2011
This was amazing!! The but thing I will exercise differently next time is to chop the cabbage rather than just thinly slice it...I think it will be easier to eat that way. Other than that, a perfect recipe!
04/xvi/2011
Made this for our St Patrick'southward day tiffin at work, they were practically licking their plates! I volition make this over again!
03/24/2011
Wonderful flavor, wonderful aroma. I used beer I had on had instead of nighttime beer, but it's hard to imagine this could taste whatsoever better than it did. I've never reviewed annihilation on this site before, but this is and so good I had to rate it. My married man, who usually merely eats what's put earlier him, raved almost it too.
04/04/2011
Good.
04/25/2011
Great flavor all around! There wasn't as many vegetables every bit I would have liked. I think I would add more carrots and maybe some dark-green beans to the stew, and cut back on the beefiness a little chip.
04/07/2011
Awesome. Have fabricated several times already. Kids and hubby loved it.
04/04/2011
A new family fave! Changes: Put in the slow cooker for eight-9 hrs on low I still browned the meat and I used olive oil. Added beef broth equally needed and sauce was still very thick. Added about 2 cups of beef broth. Used instant red potatoes
10/07/2011
The beef was fantastic this mode. Cutting upwards the meat was the biggest chore, and all the work is on the front end end. The only change I made from the recipe was to saute the cabbage in a fleck of the bacon grease instead of microwaving it.
04/06/2011
This was the hit of our St. Patrick's Potluck! I made the colcannon with turkey bacon, and it came out corking! Similar information technology so much, I plan on making that every bit a side for other dishes. The beauty of it is that it was so flavorful, none of the kids realized they were eating a veggie forth with the potatoes! Great recipes! Thanks!
08/26/2010
If I could requite this a 6 stars rating, I would. This was amazing. My picky kids fifty-fifty liked it. I did withal alter a couple of things. I added salt and pepper to the meat while searing. I too didn't utilize a roast merely rather already cut stew meat, which fabricated information technology easier. I cooked it for eight hours on low in a crock pot. I likewise added a flour rue to thicken the stew towards the stop. It was perfect! Oh and I used a 14oz can of Guiness!!
06/30/2011
I used merely the stew office of the recipe and OMG yum. I browned the beef and threw all the other ingredients into the crockpot to cook throughout the mean solar day. I used a bottle of Killian's Irish Red. My roomies loved it besides, I was quite stingy with the leftovers I'm agape! ;)
03/20/2011
So succulent! Very Rich flavor. I added an additional six oz. of Guinness, then at the end of cooking, tightened upward the sauce with a cornstartch and cold water slurry. The sauce was so silky! Highly recommend this recipe. Made information technology for a potluck and not only did it become RAVE reviews, but the dishes came abode empty!
05/10/2011
Did not live up to the hype.
03/02/2011
So good. All my iv kids liked it, which is a major challenge. Putting it on mashed potatoes made it a total comfort food. Thank you lot for the recipe!
02/07/2011
YUMM! Really, actually, actually tasty! I'm making this frequently from now on. I used guiness and it was delish! Next fourth dimension I'thousand just going to become already cut stew meat, considering it took forever to cut it into chunks and remove all the fat!
03/31/2012
Kickoff let me say that Whatsoever stew that gets five stars from me is outstanding...I'm NOT a stew lover! Add to that, I'm not a fan of things braised in beer. And that'due south ALL this is braised in. Just boy, we both loved this; did non change the recipe at all. And it will be repeated...in fact I'll probably double the recipe adjacent fourth dimension and so I can freeze information technology!
03/xviii/2012
Succulent oversupply-pleaser! I will definitely make this again. Changes I'd make: 2 cups of onions and ii cups of carrots (because I like lots of veggies and they sort of disappear in the beef mixture)... add two cups of celery and add some other cup of cabbage to the colcannon. This repast absolutely needs soda breadstuff on the side, so don't serve information technology without information technology! There's some first-class juices that would go to waste without some matching Irish staff of life to soak them upward ;)
03/26/2011
Splendid recipe! I used Guiness and some extra seasonings on the meat. I also simmered it with the lid on for several hours and the meat was cook-in-your-mouth tender! I took this to a St Patrick'due south Mean solar day dinner and it was a huge hit! Next fourth dimension I am going to salvage myself a huge amount of time by buying stew meat that is already cutting up! Thanks for sharing this recipe!
12/24/2011
Followed other reviews: Made the recipe for viii as written only used only 2 lbs of meat for family of four and enjoyed some leftovers of this great dish! Sauteed cabbage in the salary pan subsequently removing most of the grease. Used 3x the milk for colcannon. Salted meat earlier browning and added the common salt called for simply it ended up a bit too salty, will stick to recipe next time.
03/20/2011
Made this on St. Patrick'due south day since my hubby is not a corned beefiness fan, and I am actually glad I did. Such a wonderful and flavorful dish and the beef was unbelievably tender. Too loved the colcannnon! I made information technology nearly exactly as written except I added a bit more milk and table salt to the colcannon. I also added a piddling corn starch to the beef liquid to make information technology more gravy consistency. I used Harp Irish beer for the beef and information technology worked well. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. My husband does not want me to expect until next St. Patricks Day to make this once more!
03/28/2011
Dear it! Even the picky 5 and 2 twelvemonth olds loved it. Used Guinness as my dark beer, organic, grass-fed beefiness and kale instead of cabbage.
11/07/2011
made this concluding night for a guests and they all loved it. my pace son actually has seconds. the Calcannon interested me considering of the promise of added texture that the cabbage would bring to the potatoes. information technology did non disappoint. i will be making it again in a week.
04/18/2011
This was very, very delicious, just pretty labor-intensive.
05/eighteen/2011
At the very terminal minute I decided to surprise my married man with a St.Patricks twenty-four hours special dinner. I found this recipe and we both enjoyed it.
01/05/2012
Really, really tasty!! Husband says it's a keeper and then does my iii yr old. Didn't alter a thing.
03/15/2011
Excellent and like shooting fish in a barrel! I ended up microwaving both the cabbage and salary to simplify things.
03/24/2011
Made this for St. Patrick's Twenty-four hour period instead of my usual corned beef and cabbage......the guys said I didn't make enough. It was a big hit and so easy to make. The flavors were so wonderful together. I'll exist making this more than once a yr.
04/09/2013
Yummy!!!A must attempt
xi/13/2011
Delish! I use elk instead of beef or both.
03/12/2011
I love this soup! My husband said I must salve this recipe so I knew information technology must be really proficient. Followed the directions exactly and too a niggling salt nothing else is needed.
07/08/2011
I loved this recipe! I did omit the beer, and added a agglomeration of veggies it was astounding!
07/09/2013
Ooooh, this was expert! I didn't think I'd like the colcannon, simply information technology was awesome. I didn't change a thing.
03/xviii/2011
great recipe!!
01/04/2012
5 stars! I, sort of followed the recipe. I did equally whatever cook would do and jazzed it up; a trivial of this and a compression of that. My stove broke equally I was preparing this dish so out came the crock pot. I did the salary dripping affair on the cabbage; was great. Really, the cabbage dish is a meal unto itself. Got raves!
03/18/2011
This recipe is definitely a keeper!!! The flavors all meld together so well and it is a wonderful meal to make for St. Patrick's Day! I did add extra onions and carrots, since I like to accept a few more veggies in the stew. I used Guinness for the beer and it was groovy. The simply change I made was for the colcannon. As suggested by other reviewers, I sauteed the cabbage in the bacon fat rather than using the microwave. The flavour was amazing! Thanks so much for the recipe - it got rave reviews terminal night at our St. Patrick's Day/College Basketball political party!
05/27/2011
I wanted something different for St. Paddy's twenty-four hours so I thought I'd try this recipe. It was good but the beer was and so strong it overpowered everything else so information technology wasn't as yummy as it could've been. Adjacent fourth dimension I would water the beer downwardly and I think information technology would make it gustatory modality a lot amend.
03/18/2011
Absolutely Succulent! I didn't reduce it as much as it called for because I similar lots of broth. Large hit at the Paddy'due south day potluck I took it to. thank you!
03/18/2011
Fabulous! I won't be saving this for just St. Patrick's Day. Information technology's very flavorful, and the meat is so tender it melts in your mouth. As for the colcannon, it was wonderful, too. I followed another reviewer'south advice and cooked the cabbage in the bacon grease as opposed to steaming it in the microwave. That'southward definitely the way to go in my opinion. Non healthy, but delicious!
03/13/2012
I used Guinness and followed the recipe. Delicious!
03/17/2012
This was fantastic. I followed the recipe, cooking methods, and plating near exact. I realized the beef I bought was but 2lbs and not three, but used information technology anyhow. I highly recommend buying the beef pre-cut or having the butcher do it. That was the most time consuming office. I have a covered microwave bacon cooker, and so I just cooked it that way. Information technology saves on dishes and mess. I also did a thick cutting bacon, and cooked information technology until very crisp. I weighed the 2 big russet potatoes, I used, and they came out to be about 1.5 lbs and so I only used that corporeality. For the beer I used a bottle of Sam Adam'south as that was what I had. I liked the stew, only plant the colcannon to be absolutely delicious. It is so creamy! The merely downside, is, I but got about four servings. Notwithstanding, I enjoyed the meal and the two recipe parts complimented each other well. TY ~ Happy St. Patricks Solar day!
03/18/2011
This is such an bang-up recipe. Very rich and corrupt tasting. I used a big can of Guinness for the beer and the stew was crawly. Never had Colcannon before just it was so good. I cooked the cabbage in the bacon grease just for added flavor and had to stop myself from eating all the cooked cabbage by itself. Thanks so much for an fantabulous recipe!
05/15/2011
This was my showtime Irish Stew and I fabricated it for 4 other families too my own...I am still hearing about how much they loved it. Will make once again!
03/08/2011
My review is based only on the Irish Stew portion every bit I didn't brand the colcannon. The meat turned out very well and was fall apart proficient. The stew was expert just I feel it needs something else to give information technology a flavor boost. Next fourth dimension I would definately add more veggies. I felt the meat to veggie ratio was manner off, and needed more color and substance. All in all a good recipe that could be great with a few tweaks.
03/17/2011
I made it pretty much exactly every bit written, except later on braising I put information technology all in the crock pot on high for 4-5 hours. Only other change is that I cooked the bacon in the microwave rather than a pan, and it was depression-sodium bacon. Used a can of Guinness. Came out gorgeous - not bitter. Husband says it's a 5 star meal. I reviewer commented that it'd exist ameliorate with more veg, and I agree - some other couple carrots would be skillful. I'm glad I didn't reduce the broth, because I actually like lots of broth with the colcannon. Husband prefers less goop, simply that's easy enough to practise when serving - just use a slotted spoon. Surprisingly the colcannon wasn't as nice on its own (I tried information technology out of curiosity). The cabbage stands out likewise much with its inconsistent texture. But with the stew, information technology'due south incredible.
03/05/2012
Made exactly as written using Guinness Stout for the dark beer. I did add together some mushrooms (sautéed) that I had in the fridge, and I'd exercise that the side by side time, as well. The colcannon is proficient enough to stand on its own every bit a side dish. Very different from any beefiness stew that I've ever had, merely we really enjoyed it.
04/27/2012
This was absolutely fantastic!
03/24/2013
I hate to be such a downer, simply this was not to my liking at all. :( Admittedly, I only made the stew part of this recipe, so I am basing my opinion solely on that part of it. Since I was simply cooking for two people, I scaled everything past half (I made four servings worth, expecting leftovers). Every bit such, I used half a canteen of beer (Guinness Stout) - but I wish I would have used the entire canteen instead.... After removing the lid from my Dutch oven (i.eastward. after the offset 45 minutes), my stew wasn't every bit saucy as I idea it "should" be. Past the time I took my stew out of the oven, most of the liquid had completely evaporated. My meat was dry and overcooked and the stew itself had a biting palatableness. Considering this was the star of our St. Paddy's Mean solar day meal, everything else I served with it lost its appeal as well. Maybe this will float your gunkhole, but it did absolutely zilch for me. Thanks anyways, MNIKOLAISEN. :-)
04/14/2012
Splendid! Excellent...I sauted the cabbage in the bacon pan and cooked the stew in the crock pot; but other than that, followed the recipe to a tee. this will exist washed again and again.
03/03/2013
Then yummy! This recipe is very similar to how I usually make my beef stew. I loved the idea of serving the stew over colcannon instead of calculation potatoes to the stew. It was 1 of those "why didn't I think of that?" moments! Made a couple of pocket-sized modifications equally some reviewers mentioned: used about 3/4 cup of milk for the colcannon and sauteed the shredded cabbage in the bacon fat. And considering I like them, I used about a pound of infant carrots in the stew. Otherwise I followed the recipe as is. All I had on hand was Sam Adams Winter Lager and information technology was tasty but next time I think I'll use Guiness (and a fiddling brown carbohydrate to cutting the bitterness)similar I ordinarily do for my beefiness stew. And there will definitley be many next times!
12/30/2011
VERY Skilful! Made stew with out Colcanno. added chunks of potatoes. Served with biscuits. everyone loved it.
03/20/2011
I made this in my pressure cooker for St. Patrick's twenty-four hour period! It was wonderful. I cooked the stew for twenty min. at 15psi after browning the beef and and then I cooked the diced potatoes and chopped kale in the force per unit area cooker for 6min. on a steamer with one loving cup of water. I did omit the salary! I am in beloved with this kale potato recipe! And I will not save it for just St. Patrick's mean solar day! This is going in my regular carte! Thanks for a nifty recipe.
03/28/2011
I was very impressed with this recipe. It does take some fourth dimension to cook, but the results were peachy. I didn't accept a dark beer at the fourth dimension. I used one cup light beer and 1/three cup port wine. Again, very proficient. My only proposition would be to up the amount of ingredients, especially the colcannon. I followed the directions equally is, for eight servings, and only got most 4 decent size servings.
03/eighteen/2011
Very good and very easy. I will definitely make again, although, due to personal preference, I may add more vegetables. Succulent!
03/14/2011
Everyone in my family loved this dish! I can't wait to accept it over again.

I wanted to serve this for a Wednesday night church building meal for virtually 90 people. I used O'Douls non-alcholic beer and added a can of beef broth and cooked it in a roaster oven for nearly 8-10 hours. The meat was falling apart tender. For the colcannon I used Hormel existent bacon $.25 and Idahoan Brand instant potaotes to save fourth dimension. The onlly other alter was I forgot the fresh parsely. I had never made this before, and so I'm not sure how the O'Douls changed the tastte, but everyone sure raved about it. I'k not a big cabbage fan, but the potatoes were great. Merely a note: I ever use the Idahoan instant potatoes for church meals and large gatherings and y'all can't tell the difference. Excellant recipe.

I actually didn't think my family would like information technology considering of the Guinness. No fearfulness. It was loved and my husband fifty-fifty commented that Colcannon was needed to balance the rich flavor of the stew, preferring it to evidently mashed potatoes. Thank goodness for an alternative to corned beef. Next time, I'm going to endeavor it with lamb.

I'k not existent fond of Irish gaelic stew, but it was a cracking combination served over the top of colcannon. While the colcannon was also good, I can't say that I would make this 1 again. In that location are better colcannon recipes out there.

I actually wanted to like this by the number of high reviews, but, this didn't piece of work at all for us. I made exactly as the recipe stated using Guinness dark beer. It turned out unbelievably strong and biting. The colcannon had skillful flavor, but, we couldn't eat the stew at all. Recipe called for dark beer....maybe the problem was using Guinness, just, this did not piece of work for us.

I have to add my voice to the chorus!! I had this dish a bit ago and it was And so expert! Easy, fantastic recipe. I made the stew exactly as written except at the cease I felt it wasn't soupy plenty for me so I added some beef broth. I have made colcannon a couple of times and this is definitely the best. My only change was I used half potato and half celery root to reduce carbs and considering I prefer that combo better.

Since I often cook for company I am always looking for new recipes & since it is almost St. Patrick's Day I was looking for something Irish. I had never heard of Colcannon & idea it looked interesting even though I thought cabbage in mashed potatoes a chip unusual, I was game. Made it last night to serve tonight but since I had never had information technology before, my husband & I had it for dinner last night. YUM! Information technology was delicious & the meat was and so tender! I did make some changes out of necessity. Had no beer so I used molasses instead & it was SO expert! Tonight I added peas ( because I was afraid in that location wouldn't be plenty - for leftover's tomorrow!) & it was wonderful! Everyone ate it up! I liked it better without the peas but I still give it five stars! I will be making this again & once again!

This was amazing! While it was in the oven it fabricated the whole firm olfactory property and then good and the beefiness was and then tender. Did not modify a thing.

Succulent!! Made it exactly as written except for 1 bay leaf instead of 2 (ran out). SOOOO good. Flavorful, tender meat and carrots with "gravy" that was flavorful but not over powering of any one flavor. Every bit good as the stew was, the potatoes are what set it apart and made this such an astonishing dish. The just change would be to add more fresh parsley because it gives it such a unique taste (although this isn't necessary). Made this for St. Patricks 24-hour interval but loved it so much it volition be fabricated again before next year. Thanks for the easy, eating place quality meal!

Great Irish Stew recipe. I adjusted the seasonings somewhat to arrange my own tastes (more garlic and pepper), and I added some tomato paste and chopped celery to the mix. Made it for St. Paddy's day for a crowd and everyone raved nearly how good it was.
